5 . . . TIPS AND TRICKS . . .

OPENING SHORTCUTS ON YOUR DESKTOP IN 'MAXIMUM'
VIEW SO THEY FILL THE SCREEN AUTOMATICALLY

- Right-click on the shortcut icon on your Desktop.
- Click Properties.
- Click the Shortcut tab in the top left corner of the dialog box.
- Click down-facing arrow to the right of the Run field.
- Click Maximized.
- Click Apply.
- Click Close.

AVOIDING AND FIXING PRINTER JAMS...

- Avoid using folded or creased paper.
- Avoid cheap or recycled stock (particularly with ink jet
printers).
- Avoid printing on the backside of paper that was printed
on previously since the ink on the backside can rub off
onto the printer's rollers.
- Avoid using paper that's thicker than recommended for
your printer.
- Dust out accumulated dust and paper debris occasionally.
- Avoid overfilling the paper tray.
- Some printers have release levers for releasing paper jams.
Check your manual if you're not sure.
- When the printer jams, avoid pulling paper out against
the direction it normally travels.
- If small pieces of paper remain inside the printer after
you clear a jam, check your printer's manual or website
for instructions on safely clearing the jam.
- If paper jams into an accordion-folded mess under a roller,
don't try forcing another piece of paper through to push the
jammed paper out. Instead, check your printer's manual or
website.
- Avoid re-using a page of self-stick labels in your printer
since edges frequently lift making it easy (and a mess)
for labels to become affixed to a roller.

ARE YOU GETTING A BLANK SHEET AT THE END OF
SOME WORD DOCUMENTS WHEN YOU PRINT THEM???

The reason you get a blank last page is that the Word document
has some extra blank lines at the end that make the document
'think' it is longer than it really is.

To check this, go to the bottom of the document and notice a
short 1/4 inch horizontal line near the left edge -- and note that
it is probably not immediately under the last line of text in
the document.

If this is true, click with your mouse just above this short
horizontal line so your flashing insertion bar almost forms
a capital letter 'L' with the horizontal line. Then press
your Backspace key on your keyboard until the horizontal line
appears just under the last line of text.

6 . . . BITS AND BYTES OF HUMOR . . .

Each year about this time, I re-introduce many pages of holiday
jokes, cartoons, etc. Newest items are at the top -- and more
