Tips and Tricks WINDOWS XP SECURITY FLAW Even though Win XP's SP-1 (Service Pack 1) has been released, many technicians are recommending that you wait to install it since it has caused problems on some systems. However, since Win XP contains a critical security flaw, you can (and should) follow directions to download and install a special 'fix' from the highly-respected website of Steve Gibson at... http://grc.com/xpdite/xpdite.htm .. IMPORTANT INFO ABOUT SYSTEM RESTORE - Windows ME and XP include a System Restore feature that allows you to revert your system back to a specific point. In order to use System Restore, you must have an absolute minimum of 200 MB of free disk space. To set or review the System Restore utility, open the System icon in the Control Panel; click the System Restore tab; follow directions on the screen. - Using a Restore Point from last month won't delete any of your letters, e-mails, or other data files created since that time. - Since System Restore only deals with Windows ME and XP's settings, it only helps Windows itself. It can't help you located deleted e-mails or recover deleted files that are no longer in the Recycle Bin. - Using System Restore to 'go back in time' won't disinfect your computer of a newly-acquired virus. - If you use a Restore Point from 2 weeks ago, then any programs installed since them might not work. - Even with System Restore, you should back up at least data files onto a removable storage medium to protect data in the event of a hard drive failure. 4 . . .
