Tips and Tricks >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Got a question? Post it on Our Message Board. Go to http://www.iteachyou.com Click Ask a Question >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> EMAIL FORMATTING OPTIONS I prefer to send everything in plain text since some recipients can only read plain text. In addition, some recipients will see gibberish mixed in with the message. In addition, non-plain-text messages are usually much larger which ties up Internet bandwidth and causes a slowdown at the recipient's end. For the same reason, I don't use email stationery or any other fancy formatting options. At the recipient's end, they can set their email program (if it supports fancy features) to RECEIVE email in whichever format they prefer. Receiving in plain text is a bit safer because of the possibility of obscure viruses being included with non-plain-text messages. However, this is not a problem if you have a current version of an updated antivirus program such as Norton or McAfee which automatically updates itself for 1 year and automatically checks all files coming into your system -- including emails -- before they are opened and can do damage. Additional note from Gini: EVERYONE needs an current antivirus program -- even if you don't use fancy email features. They are available at most stores that sell computer software (Staples, CompUSA, etc.) and usually have a rebate which brings the price down to between $10 and $20. CREATIVE NAMING FOR A FILE OR FOLDER TO MAKE IT APPEAR AT THE TOP OF AN ALPHABETIZED LIST Certain files and folders that you use a lot are often more difficult to locate in a large alphabetized list that scrolls off the screen. Usually if you rename a file with a dash and a space it will alphabetize at the top of the list. For example, instead of 'Gini' rename it to '- Gini' which USUALLY alphabetizes the file before those that start with the letter A. Note: Don't try this with the My Documents folder or any files that run a specific program unless you are sure of what you are doing. It works well with files you have created and work with often ('resume.doc' for example) or folders you access frequently ('personal,' inside the My Documents folder, for example). >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Got a question? Non-Nerdy Stats DID YOU KNOW? (taken from http://www.puzzlegrid.com/) - If all the strawberries produced in California annually were put side by side, they would wrap around the Earth 15 times. - In the United States, approximately 7 billion pounds of chocolate and candy are manufactured each year. - Parrots, most famous of all talking birds, rarely acquire a vocabulary of more than twenty words. However, Tymhoney Greys and African Greys have been known to carry vocabularies in excess of 100 words. - Pandas spend about 12 hours a day eating bamboo. - In one year, hens in America lay enough eggs to encircle the globe a hundred times. - A 4-inch-long abalone can grip a rock with a force of 400 pounds. Two grown men are incapable of prying it up. - A baby gray whale drinks enough milk to fill more than 2,000 bottles a day. 7 . . . Bits and Bytes of Humor Try this... Sitting at your desk, lift your right foot off the floor and make clockwise circles. Now, while doing this, draw the number '6' in the air with your right hand. Your foot will change direction. ----- At last....a new approach to health and nutrition... Q: Should I cut down on meat and eat more fruits and vegetables? A: You must grasp logistical efficiencies. What does a cow eat? Hay and corn. And what are these? Vegetables. So a steak is nothing more than an efficient mechanism of delivering vegetables to your system. Need grain? Eat chicken. Beef is also a good source of field grass (green leafy vegetable). And a pork chop can give you 100 percent of your recommended daily allowance of vegetable slop. Q: Is beer or wine bad for me? A: Look, it goes to the earlier point about fruits and vegetables. As we all know, scientists divide everything in the world into three categories: animal, mineral, and vegetable. We all know that beer and wine are not animal, and they are not on the periodic table of elements, so that only leaves one thing, right? My advice: Have a burger and a beer and enjoy your liquid vegetables. Q: How can I calculate my body/fat ratio? A: Well, if you have a body, and you have body fat, your ratio is one to one. If you have two bodies, your ratio is two to one, etc. Q: What are some of the advantages of participating in a regular exercise program? A: Can't think of a single one, sorry. My philosophy is: No Pain...Good. Q: Aren't fried foods bad for you? A: You're not listening. Foods are fried these days in vegetable oil. In fact, they're permeated in it. How could getting more vegetables be bad for you? Q: Is chocolate bad for me? A: Are you crazy? HELLO ..... Cocoa beans ... another vegetable!!! 'It's the best feel-good food around!' Well, I hope this has cleared up any misconceptions you may have had about food and diets. Have a cookie...flour is a veggie! One more thing...'When life hands you lemons, ask for tequila and salt.'
