WHAT MEGAPIXEL RATING TO GET IN A
DIGITAL CAMERA?

Here's a brief guide for choosing between digital cameras with
1, 2, 3, or 4+ megapixels:

* 1-Megapixel Digital Cameras Ideal for basic usage -- e-mailing
photos, posting photos on the Web, and printing small, everyday shots
* Maximum recommended print size: 4' x 6'

2-Megapixel Digital Cameras
* Ideal for general usage -- e-mailing photos, posting photos on the
Web, and printing everyday shots
* Maximum recommended print size: 5' x 7'

3-Megapixel Digital Cameras
* Ideal for 'average' photographers and high-quality general use. Good
for everyday and special occasions, and for printing a variety of sizes.
* Maximum recommended print size: 8' x 10'

4-Megapixel and Higher Digital Cameras
* Ideal for avid photographers who want near-35mm quality results.
* Maximum recommended print size: 11' x 14'

MORE-STABLE INTERNET CONNECTION
If you use a dial-up connection (modem) to access the Internet, you
will have a better Internet connection if you...
- Use as short a phone cord as possible between your computer
and the surge protector or wall.
- Keep the phone cord away from other phone lines and electrical
cords.
- Keep the phone cord untwisted.

FASTER MODEMS
If you access the Internet with a modem on a dialup connection,
you will get the best possible speed with a hardware modem --
not a software modem. A software modem (WinModem) is
slower because it has no built-in brains so they rely on your
computer's CPU to do all the thinking for them -- which slows
down your connection and everything else you are doing while
online.

To check to see if you have a hardware modem, do the following:

Windows 95/98/ME:
- Click Start - Settings - Control Panel.
- Double-click to open Modems icon.
- Click General tab in Modems Properties dialog box.
- If there is NO reference to WinModem, then you have a hardware
modem.

Windows XP:
- Click Start - Control Panel.
- Double-click to open Phone and Modem Options dialog box.
- Click Modems tab in the dialog box.
- If there is NO reference to WinModem, then you have a hardware
modem.

4 . . Non-Nerdy Stats

Things you always wanted to know about humans, but were afraid
to ask (Part 2) ...

- The lungs of an average adult, unfolded and flattened out, would
cover an area the size of a tennis court.
- On average, clergymen, lawyers, and doctors each have 15,000
words in their vocabulary. Skilled workers who haven't had a college
education know between 5,000 and 7,000 words. Farm laborers,
about 1,600.
- It has been determined that one brow wrinkle is the result of
200,000 frowns.
- A newborn baby's head accounts for about one-quarter of its
entire weight.
- Up to the age of 6 or 7 months, a child can breathe and swallow
at the same time. An adult cannot do this.
- The human heart creates enough pressure when it pumps out
to the body to squirt blood 30 feet.

5 . . Bits and Bytes of Humor
