SHORTCUTS - QUICK LAUNCH BAR - SHOW DESKTOP ICON

Following are 4 sets of instructions:
1. Create a Shortcut on your Desktop.
2. Confirm that Quick Launch Bar is Turned On.
3. Add a Shortcut to your Quick Launch Bar.
4. Add a 'Show Desktop' icon to your Quick Launch Bar
(not possible in some older versions of Windows).

1. CREATE A SHORTCUT ON YOUR DESKTOP

Following is the easiest way to create a shortcut on your Desktop
to a particular program -- for example, Internet Explorer:

- Click Start - Programs (or All Programs) and then branch until you
SEE (but don't click on) the Internet Explorer program in the list.
- Right-click on the Internet Explorer name in the list.
- Click Copy.
- Branch to your Windows Desktop.
- Right-click on a blank portion of your Windows Desktop.
- Click Paste.

Another way to create a shortcut on your Desktop is to use the
'Find' utility to find the file you want the shortcut to and then to
drag and drop it onto your Desktop as follows:
- Minimize all open windows to the Taskbar so only your
Desktop is visible.
- To find files on your computer, try the following:

WIN 95/98:

- Click Start - Find - Files or Folders.
- Type name of file in Named field (e.g.: Excel)
- Verify that Look In box indicates your Hard Drive.
- Verify that there's a check mark in Include Subfolders box.
- Click Find Now (continues below).

WIN ME:

- Click Start - Search - All Files and Folders.
- Type name of file in Named field (e.g.: Excel)
- Verify that Look In box indicates your Hard Drive.
- Verify that there's a check mark in Include Subfolders box.
- Click Search Now (continues below).

WIN XP:

- Click Start - Search - All Files and Folders.
- Type name of file in All or Part of the File Name field
(e.g.: Excel)
- Verify that Look In box indicates your Hard Drive.
- Click Search.

NEXT STEPS FOR ALL VERSIONS OF WINDOWS:

- Drag and drop the bottom right corner of the dialog box to
make it larger so you can view more columns.
- Find the file in the list among the choices in the list.
- Right-drag-and-drop (right mouse button) this filename
onto your Desktop.
- Click Create Shortcut Here.
- Click FILE-CLOSE and notice that new shortcut is now
on your Desktop.

2. CONFIRM THAT QUICK LAUNCH BAR IS TURNED ON

- Right-click on a blank gray portion of your Taskbar.
- Click Toolbars.
- Confirm that there's a checkmark by Quick Launch.

3. ADD A SHORTCUT TO YOUR QUICK LAUNCH BAR

- Drag and drop the new shortcut from your Desktop into a space
between 2 other icons in your Quick Launch bar.
- You can now drag and drop the shortcut you created on your
Desktop to your Recycle Bin if you wish.

4. ADD A 'SHOW DESKTOP' ICON TO YOUR
QUICK LAUNCH BAR (NOT POSSIBLE IN SOME OLDER
VERSIONS OF WINDOWS)

The 'Show Desktop' icon allows you to easily minimize all windows
covering your Windows Desktop to return to your Desktop screen.

- Use the 'Find' utility in Windows to locate the 'Show Desktop'
file on your system. (Start-Find or Start-Search, etc.) *see below
- Right-click on the name of the Show Desktop file in the results list.
- Click Copy.
- Switch back to Windows Desktop screen.
- Right-click on a blank portion of the Windows Desktop.
- Click Paste Shortcut.
- Use instructions in #3 above to put a copy of this icon in your
Quick Launch Bar.

* Note: If not found, then open Notepad and copy and paste the
following 5 lines into the blank Notepad document.

[Shell]
Command=2
IconFile=explorer.exe,3
[Taskbar]
Command=ToggleDesktop

- Save this file to your Windows Desktop with the name
'Show Desktop.scf' (without the quotes)
- Minimize everything covering your Windows Desktop.
- Drag and drop the new icon from your Desktop onto the
Quick Launch Bar.

4 . . . Non-Nerdy Stats

live in the New York City metropolitan area.

- The average snail moves at a rate of approximately
0.000362005 miles per hour.

5 . . . Bits and Bytes of Humor

Marriage is a gamble.
... You start with a pair.
... He shows a diamond.
... She shows a heart.
... Her father has a club.
... His father has a spade.
... There's usually a joker around somewhere, but after a while he
becomes a king and she becomes a queen. Then they end up with
a full house.
