Things you always wanted to know about humans, but were afraid to ask ... - 70 percent of the dust in your home consists of shed human skin and hair. - The average human scalp has 100,000 hairs. - The tooth is the only part of the human body that can't repair itself. - Every human spent about half an hour as a single cell. - Human thighbones are stronger than concrete. - It takes the interaction of 72 different muscles to produce human speech. 5 . . . TIPS AND TRICKS . . . *** CORRECTION *** In the June 6 issue I incorrectly stated that data on a CD records closest to the outer edge; it really records closest to the center first. Also I implied that a broken or scratched CD would be unreadable. The only way to make a CD truly unreadable is to melt it. ----- MICROSOFT WORD -- OPEN A DOCUMENT CREATED IN ANOTHER UNKNOWN WORD PROCESSOR - Click FILE-OPEN. - Click down arrow in Files of Type box. - Click Recover Text from Any File. - Click file you want to open; click Open. - Note: If the file opens it will likely be stripped of formatting, pictures, etc. ----- MICROSOFT WORD -- INSERT A DROP CAP AT THE START OF A PARAGRAPH - Highlight first letter in a paragraph. - Click FORMAT-DROP CAP and make selections. ----- CHANGE A FILE FROM 'READ ONLY' TO WRITEABLE When you transfer a file from a CD or DVD to your hard disk drive, it may still be in a 'read-only' format. To convert the file from read only to a writeable format, do the following: -- Open My Computer on your Windows Desktop. -- Open your hard drive window (usually C). -- Branch to the location of the file you want to change. -- Right-click on the name of the file and click Properties. -- Click the General tab in the Properties dialog box. -- Remove the check mark by Read Only and place a check by Archive. -- Click OK 6 . . . BITS AND BYTES OF HUMOR . . . A group of senior citizens were exchanging notes about their ailments. 'My arm is so weak I can hardly hold this coffee cup.' 'Yes, I know. My cataracts are so bad I can't see to pour the coffee.' 'I can't turn my head because of the arthritis in my neck.' 'My blood pressure pills make me dizzy.' 'I guess that's the price we pay for getting old.' 'Well, it's not all bad. We should be thankful that we can still drive!' ----- A father noticed that his son was spending way too much time playing computer games. In an effort to motivate the boy into focusing more attention on his schoolwork, the father said to his son, 'When Abe Lincoln was your age, he was studying books by the light of the fireplace.' The son replied, 'Dad, when Lincoln was your age, he was The President of The United States!!!' Your source for life-long learning
