Open Control Panel and click selection to Add/Remove Programs. b. Click Microsoft Office or a specific application in the list and click Change or Add/Remove Program, depending your version of Windows. c. Follow directions on screen to the Office Assistant which you'll probably find listed under Office Shared Features and change its setting to 'Not Available.' Note: On some systems you may need to insert your Office CD-ROM to finish the process. ----- EASY ACCENT, TILDE, AND OTHER PRONOUNCIATION SYMBOLS IN WORD When typing a document in Word, following is an easy way to create commonly-used accent marks that occur in many words and proper names. Note that if you use these in your email messages, they MAY not appear as they should -- depending on what type of email program your recipient is using. Therefore, some of you may not actually see the example in parentheses below; however, you will see the correct result when you try it in a Word document. In each example below when you see the + (plus) sign it means you hold down the first key listed while pressing the other key-- and then you release all keys at once. Accent over letter e 1. Press CTRL+' and press the letter e on keyboard. or 2. Press ALT+0233 ~ symbol over letter n 1. Press CTRL+SHIFT+~ and then press the letter n on keyboard. or 2. Press ALT+0241 In addition, if you want to create a 'slashed zero' so it's clear that you are referring to a zero and not the letter O, do the following: 1. Press CTRL+/ and release both keys and then press SHIFT+O (that's the upper case of the letter O) or 2. Press ALT+0216. You can access the full spectrum of accents and special symbols by clicking INSERT-SYMBOL within Word and exploring the various choice in the Symbol dialog box. I've listed some of the most-commonly-used symbols on my website at http://www.iteachyou.com/accents.htm >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Got a question? The hump of a well-rested, well-fed camel can weigh up to 80 pounds. 6 . . . Bits and Bytes of Humor The doctor told me 'Physical exercise is good for you.' I know that I should do it, but my body is out of shape, so I have worked out this easy daily program I can do anywhere: Monday: Beat around the bush. Jump to conclusions. Climb the walls. Wade through paperwork. Tuesday: Drag my heels. Push my luck. Make mountains out of mole hills. Hit the nail on the head. Wednesday: Bend over backwards. Jump on the band wagon. Balance the books. Run around in circles. Thursday: Toot my own horn. Climb the ladder of success. Pull out the stops. Add fuel to the fire. Friday: Open a can of worms. Put my foot in my mouth. Start the ball rolling. Go over the edge. Saturday: Pick up the pieces. Whew! What a workout! Your source for life-long learning
