To turn off error reporting: - Click Start - Control Panel (or Start - Settings - Control Panel). - Click Switch to Classic View if you see it listed on the left side of your screen. - Double-click to open System. - Click Advanced tab. - Click Error Reporting button. - Click to place a dot by Disable Error Reporting. - Click (if necessary) to remove the checkmark by 'But notify me...' - Click OK. - Click Apply (if available). - Click OK. - Click FILE-CLOSE. .............. News You Can Use SPAM FAILS SCREENING Only 10 percent of junk e-mails comply with a new federal anti-spam law, according to two days' worth of messages analyzed by a spam filtering vendor. Most spam was sent without a correct subject line, a physical mailing address or a way to decline future mailings. 6 . . . Non-Nerdy Stats Imagine... There is a bank that credits your account each morning with $86,400. It carries over no balance from day to day. Every evening deletes whatever part of the balance you failed to use during the day. What would you do? Draw out ALL OF IT, of course!!!! Each of us has such a bank. Its name is TIME. Every morning, it credits you with 86,400 seconds. Every night it writes off, as lost, whatever of this you have failed to invest to good purpose. It carries over no balance. It allows no overdraft. Each day it opens a new account for you. Each night it burns the remains of the day. If you fail to use the day's deposits, the loss is yours. There is no going back. There is no drawing against the 'tomorrow.' You must live in the present on today's deposits. Invest it so as to get from it the utmost in health, happiness, and success! The clock is running. Make the most of today. To realize the value of ONE YEAR, ask a student who failed a grade. To realize the value of ONE MONTH, ask a mother who gave birth to a premature baby. To realize the value of ONE WEEK, ask the editor of a weekly newspaper. To realize the value of ONE HOUR, ask the lovers who are waiting to meet. To realize the value of ONE MINUTE, ask a person who missed the train. To realize the value of ONE-SECOND, ask a person who just avoided an accident. To realize the value of ONE MILLISECOND, ask the person who won a silver medal in the Olympics. And remember that time waits for no one. Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That's why it's called the present!!! 7 . . . Bits and Bytes of Humor ORIGINS OF NAMES OF COMPANIES (shared by Bob Beymer) ~ Apple Computers It was the favorite fruit of founder Steve Jobs. He was late in filing a name for the business, and he threatened to call his company Apple Computers if the other colleagues didn't suggest a better name by 5 o'clock. ~ CISCO It is not an acronym as popularly believed. It is short for San Francisco. ~ Compaq This name was formed by using COMp, for computer, and PAQ to denote a small integral object. ~ Hewlett Packard Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard tossed a coin to decide whether the company they founded would be called Hewlett-Packard or Packard-Hewlett. ~ Intel Bob Noyce and Gordon Moore wanted to name their new company 'Moore Noyce' but that was already trademarked by a hotel chain so they had to settle for an acronym of INTegrated ELectronics. ~ Lotus (Notes) Mitch Kapor got the name for his company from 'The Lotus Position' or Padmasana.' Kapor used to be a teacher of Transcendental Meditation of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. ~ Microsoft Coined by Bill Gates to represent the company that was devoted to MICROcomputer SOFTware. Originally christened Micro-Soft, it was later changed to Microsoft. Your source for life-long learning
